bootup lag

wen i turn on my comp or return from hibernate, it takes forever for it to actually "turn on". wen i press power, the cd drives lights blinks green and it has tat hd running sound, but usually takes 3 minutes before the beep sound and anything show up on the monitor...:sigh:
btw its XP sp2 ecs motherboard. i custom built it maybe tats why? did i connect something wrong

Could be either hardware or software.

Compare your boot time to Safe Mode. If it's almost the same then think hardware. Your CD player sounds like a culprit.

Check Device Manager for yellow & red flagged devices. Check Event Viewer for clues.

Use MSCONFIG to selectively turn off things and see if anything in particular dramatically changes boot up time.

Troubleshoot boot time and not hibernate, as the issues involved with hibernate are more complex and harder to nail down. but ifyou fix your boot time, more than likely hibernate will start acting right.
