Hi all. I got a virus, the most powerful I've seen.
It did:
- Uninstall Ad-Aware
- Change security settings
- Instal AV Care and Windows Police Pro
So I tried reinstalling Ad-Aware, but by that point the computer was a mess with popus, semi-crashes, etc.
I attempted Safe Mode but the stupid computer somehow missed that I typed F8 a thousand times. Of course this meant the virus was able to complete its installation. Since then Safe Mode does not boot.
The hardest part is that exe's are mis-associated. Here is what I've been able to (not) do:
- Exes used to lead to a pump.exe, and when I renamed it to pump_.exe, all exe's ask what program to run them with.
- I can run some of them with "run as..." in the right-button menu. But most programs crash as soon as they open. Different error messages.
- I cannot do system restore or try the register because my account has no admin privileges. So I tried to go into Users Accounts, but rundll32 is missing...
In fact many dlls are missing (and that's why programs fail, including the ones the virus tries to run itself---IE, and weirdly Adobe Acrobat).
Has anyone heard of anything like this?
This is a netbook. No drives, and, now, no program that can access the net (even ftp fails to run).
Thanks in advance.
