Mac formatted firewire drive -- where is it?

Hi -- the answer is probably obvious, but . . .

just installed a new firewire card in a Dell running XP pro. Device manager says it is enabled and working properly.

connected an external hard drive formatted for mac os. Again, device manager says the drive is enabled and working properly.

but the drive does not show up in the list of devices when i left click on "my computer."

what am i missing here??
