No device detected for this driver

i have compaq presario c550em notebook.I downloaded the driver for audio device but when i tried to install it message appeared"NO DEVICE DETECTED FOR THIS DRIVER".I am using XP.Whereas sound device works properly on windows VISTA.What should I do?Any help....!!!!!
