Random Rebooting not a virus

hi I have recently bought a new pc spec is as follows :

Asus mother board
1gb Ram (don't know brand)
Hercules 32mb graphics
5.1 sound card
win xp sp2
3.0 P4 processor
standard psu (came with case)

my pc randomly restarts when i'm using it like it can't handle my running of it, theres nothing in particular that sets it off. I've gone into manage my computer and the following system error seems to occur when it restarts:

Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 8056ec2e, parameter3 f39b7880, parameter4 00000000.

Can anyone help me figure this out? i sent the error report to microsoft and they suggested updating bios which I did but nothing changed it still reboots. It also became very slow to boot up before the welcome screen it hangs for a short while on a black screen.

Can you please respond asap as its driving me mad, the guy who built the pc is coming up on friday with a new psu in case its that but I want to check its nothing else first.

If you need anymore information please give me laymans terms on how to do it lol

Welcome to TSF burd 2003. Let's see if I can help you out, first let me know if you have run your anti-virus, spyware/adware tools making sure to run them in "Safe Mode" and they're updated.

1. Then I would like for you to go to Start>Right-click My Computer, select Properties>Advanced> Under Startup and Recovery Settings > Un-tick Automatically restart under System failure.

2. Then when your computer crashes or reboots go to Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer then copy & paste the error message here.
This way we can see exactly what the error message is and can further help solve your problem.

Sorry about that burd 2003 :embarased this sounds like a ram problem, since you don't know what modules you have ( you can d/l Everest Home or Belarc from www.majorgeeks.com) it will give you a complete description of your system. Also while at majorgeeks d/l Memtest86+ a tool that test for errors on your ram sticks.
