Random skipping through Powerpoint slides, now Facebook photos

The other day when viewing a powerpoint presentation I clicked to go to the next slide as usual, but then the computer starting clicking through many slides by itself and couldn't stop running through them. Now I can't control the process of any slideshow because the computer takes over and rushes through a couple every few seconds.

I noticed this now happens with facebook photos, as I press 'Next' onto the next photo and the computer intermittently tries to run through the whole album by itself.

I know this is a fairly obscure problem, but was wondering if anyone could offer any suggestions?

Thanks.

Sounds like your mouse has turned against you. Try using another mouse (in different ports if you're using USB) and see if that changes anything.

To me it looks as if your mouse can't work out when you've released the button, and is telling the computer you've continued to click.

Thanks for the response.

It's not the mouse, because it happens after I skip to the next slide/photo using any key on the keyboard. Once I press to next image, it keeps trying to cycle through the images and won't settle. Likewise in Powerpoint, it goes through the presentation by quickly skipping through the slides by itself once I have set it off.
