(hope that's the info you need!)

I am trying to connect to wireless in my new apartment. I usually have no trouble doing this. I have chosen my network and entered the network key. Signal strength is excellent. But my computer is attempting to connect and can't. It says: Status: Acquiring Network Address. Usually I've seen this happen for a few seconds before it finally connects. But it is not connecting. It also says: Invalid IP address.

So, I've gone to Properties and looked into the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Originally it was set on automatic IP address. I looked up the IP on my roommates computer (she is connected) and tried putting that in my computer. (192.168.1.1) But that didn't work either. For one, I didn't have the 'subnet mask' or 'default gateway' number.

I am stuck. Thanks for your help. :4-dontkno

Okay, well first 192.168.1.1 is not the ip address. That is just the host of the computer distributed by the router. That address is changed accordingly by each connected device. So for instance her pc may be 192.168.1.1 because it is the main one that is connected to the router or the first one. Then your connection would become 192.168.1.2 or .3 or .4 etc. But if you were to go on her computer and check the ip online (whatismyip.com) you would see the address is totally different.

You can go to the web address 192.168.1.1 to access your router. Here you can check to make sure that you indeed are typing the correct router password and. Also make sure there is not a MAC adress filter or block because that may be limited which devices can use the router. By default though, this filter is off. Keep me updated.
