XP Pro - Media Player 10 Problems

Help:
I upgraded to Media Player 10 and almost all my songs have been triplicated with file paths of: e: and/or d: In other words, my CD and CD/DVD drives. Needless to say they don't play.
Worse. Many of my songs (15-20 % of 2300 songs) now play at 'Alvin & the Chipmunk' Speed.
I've tried the origional folders in C Drive, My Documents, My Music but they too play too fast. What happened???
Is there a correlation to my downloading some free DVD playing software??
I'm here because I'm not an expert but I learn fast and have been trying to resolve this for about 3 weeks. TIA.

Hi Murph

Any luck finding a repair yet?

What have you tried so far?

Seems like you could try the usual:
1) For the too-fast, too-high playback, make sure the Play Speed setting is set to "Normal" and not "Fast" [though I imagine that it's unlikely to be so simple]
2) Uninstall Windows Media Player 10
3) Uninstall the new DVD software
4) Run a Registry Cleaner (in case the uninstallers leave a mess behind ... I like to recommend CCleaner http://www.download.com/CCleaner/3000-2144_4-10547048.html?tag=lst-0-1
5) Try a different player (RealPlayer has stopped using quite so much semi-adware, and plays iTunes formats, mp3, and WMP formats).
6) Try reinstalling Windows Media Player 10
7) Try a System Restore (you might need to reinstall some software after this step)
8) Visit Windows Update for patches.

And scan your system for malware, just in case it's interfering with system files.

Best of luck
. . . Gary
