XP will not load at all. Blank screen

One morning my PC just wouldn't load XP. It would get past booting - recognizing both my hard disks fine, but will simply stop when XP has to load. (Blank screen with no cursor or anything else, where the Windows XP Home Edition loading screen should normally appear.) I didn't install any new hardware or software recently and the computer was running perfectly the night before.

When I try to run the computer in Safe Mode, it simply stops at:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows\system32\config\system.log
None of the other options from the F8 screen have worked either.

I can't figure out what is wrong with my machine. Please, someone help. Thank you.

Boot from your xp disk usually tapping f12 when you turn on the computer will allow you to select the device you want to boot from. alternatively go into your bios and change your cd drive to your main boot device. Once you have done this follow the prompts as if you were going to re-install windows but when it gets to "checking for current installations" and it detects your current installation on C: press R for repair and follow the prompts. This will replace all of your startup files but you shouldnt lose any of your important Data. Let me know how you go
