I was using my laptop and going around online when all of a sudden my screen got all pixelated and the BSOD came up. I couldn't get a pic of the error code then but now I do. I can still go into safe mode, but on some lucky occasions I'll be able to get onto Windows, only for 5-30 minutes and then the screen gets pixelated again -__- I tried looking for driver updates since that's what it said on the first BSOD i saw, but I couldn't find any. Here's some specs on my laptop (VAIO VGNFZ260E):

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7250
Memory: 2GB
Hard Disc: 250GB
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT

I finally was able to capture a pic of the bsod this morning..

Technical Information:
STOP: 0X00000050 (0X887776CO, 0X00000000, 0X809Q6378, 0X00000000)

So can someone help me pleaseee?! I really need my laptop to function normally again..:sigh: Thanks!

Re: Can't go onto Windows, and all it displays is a blank screen

Okay i booted up with the cd, but it said that nothing was wrong.. Took around 30 minutes and it said on the bottom "Pass Complete, no errors, press ESC to exit". What could be wrong then? =/

Re: Can't go onto Windows, and all it displays is a blank screen

I didn't install any new hardware the night the problem occurred. I remember reading an article about iTunes 8 taking down Vista.. but i already had it install for about a month and nothing happened so i doubt it was that.

Re: Can't go onto Windows, and all it displays is a blank screen

I remember running chkdsk /f yesterday morning, and afterwards i couldn't get back into safe mode, but i ran it again just in case. Same thing happened. I didn't see it say that anything was wrong.. and so then it rebooted. Couldn't get back into windows again and rebooted into safe mode but it just stopped at the "Loading System Files" screen and didn't go anywhere. I had to do a system restore to be able to get back online to check this forum. I did a system restore the other morning too after i ran chkdsk /f. I even ran a VAIO Hardware Diagnostic test, and it said that nothing was wrong. Could it just be Windows that's causing the problem? Maybe it could be that something is worn out or burnt inside, idk because i kind of smelt a faint burning smell but could that be the regular smell of a computer or laptop working and getting hot? =|

Since my laptop is a VAIO, would the hard disc maker be from Sony? Sorry i'm sort of new to this kind of stuff =X I'm using this laptop on top of the box it came in with 2 legos under the nonslip grip things to elevate it so it won't get burning hot. I have a normal house fan to provide circulation too.

In my laptop's Specs page, it says:
Hard Drive: Capacity: 250GB, Speed: 4200RPM, Interface: SerialATA

So is my hard drive maker from SATA?

And i searched for "SATA" on the link you gave me.. it's under Seagate LLC. So i'm guessing it's from that maker.. but i'll double check to make sure.

Since my laptop has a hidden recovery partition in the hard drive, and i can access that without any problems, does that still mean that there might be a problem with my hard drive?

I can't install the hard ware diagnostic utility because Windows Installer isn't accessible while in Safe Mode, and i can't get into Windows =\ I made a Vista Recovery CD and ran "Repair Windows". Didn't help much either.. said that nothing was wrong..

Re: Can't go onto Windows, and all it displays is a blank screen

I've done about 6-8 restores already, and only 2-3 of them actually worked, but then the pixelated screen occurred again. I "updated" my graphics driver around 7pm today, and it installed the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter and rebooted. To my surprise, it worked like normal. No pixelated screen, nothing. Then i tried to update my graphics driver again and it installed the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT again, the one i already had and switched from. It rebooted and did the same thing, blank screen. So i guess it's the NVIDIA Graphics Driver, but i just don't know why it's causing that and i don't see any new updates for it..

Ah i see so the Vista x86 was the link. But it's still okay for my Vista x32? I'm posting so many replies =| And i saw on the link you gave me that it says "/175series/17808_vista" and i'm trying to look for that but i can't find it..
