vista sp1 hangs with no error ????

I am trying to install ADOBE sc4 but I need to have at least sp1 so I downloaded sp1 and I am trying to install it, but when the installation bar gets to about 50-60% it stops, and I don’t see any error messages,

I have left it for more than 4 hours, but it will not move, I have done the ab%$as disabled my AVG and disabled the firewall, tried in safe mode but the same thing, can anybody please tell me what I should do?

i have vista home 32 bit

Did you ugrade the system from XP to Vista?
If so, when?

no i did not upgrade it's a vista HP laptop,

i already tried 15 times but it stops at the same time,

cancel the upgrade and go with sp2

burn the sp2 on slow speed

or update through windows update

can i install SP2 before SP1? i thought about it yesterday but i found this http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/quick-start/service-packs.aspx

You should install both Service Packs, and you need to install SP1 before SP2.

do you have the normal vista disk or a hp restore disk

i only have the HP restore disk, but i also have a hp restore disk with sp2 integrated,

cross your fingers and try the sp2 disk as it will already have the sp1 in it
