Hello,

I have the re-direct virus. Running on HP laptop with XP pro/vista.
I have since installed Spybot, and I think adbuster although I can't seem to find it at the moment. Also Symantek antivirus/firewall I got from work. Any advice on the re-direct or what to remove for better perfomance would be great. You're my hero!

Thanks

Here is the hyjack dump

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt), you can close it - the file has already been saved.

Finally, please post the contents of the text file that opened earlier (you can find it at C:\fixwareout\report.txt ), along with a new HijackThis log into this topic.

**If you receive an error message while trying to run FixWareout, copy autoexec.nt from the C:\WINDOWS\repair folder to C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder, and run FixWareout again.

yes, redirect is gone.

Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you
Thank you Thank you Thank you

I tried the ATF cleaner it kept failing to load, so I lowered the security on IE and it did the same thing. Oh well....

Any background on the redirect? Does it attack the registry or IE java?

Hmmm, well, let's try one of these other online scans....no need to do both, but see if you can get one to run. Otherwise, I'll advise an onboard scanner to look for remnants.

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
  1. Click on
    Image
located at the bottom of the page.
  2. A "pop up" window will appear. * Please ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it *
  3. Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click "Free Online Scan" *The download of the 8 MB Panda's ActiveX control will take place*
Begin the scan by selecting
Image
  • If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
  • Please ignore any entry it finds and the offer to buy the program to remove the entry, as we will address this later.
  • Click on
    Image
    then click
    Image
* You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Go here and do the BitDefender online virus scan.
  • Click "I Agree" to agree to the EULA.
  • Allow the ActiveX control to install when prompted.
  • Leave the scanning options at default and press "Click here to scan" to begin the scan.
  • Please refrain from using the computer until the scan is finished.
  • When the scan is finished, click on "Click here to export the scan results"
  • Save the report to your desktop then come back here and post it in your next reply.

sorry, got a little busy.....
Here is the results from pandasoftware.
Also, I now have to log into my favorite websites each visit.
Can I reset this so the web sire will remember my login and password (like before) I'm assuming this is some cookie setting?

Thanks

not sure what it is but Autocomplete didn't fix it. Whats happening is that the site is requiring me to log in each time I start the browser and goto the site. Before it recognized who I was and didn't require me to login each time.

What about the scan log I posted above. Should I disinfect the stuff or did it look ok to you?

Thanks

The other items are fine, merely cookies or false readings.

You may need to ask for help on the browser/cookie issue in Internet Explorer section, or the Windows XP section.

I've used those tools and procedures on hundreds of systems, and not encountered such.

See if this MS link helps you set a per site privacy action for the site giving you trouble.
