My two year old computer got real hot one night. Maybe cat hair plugged the intakes, I dunno. I was playing Team Fortress 2 and listening to MP3's at the time it went down, so there was reason for everything to get toasty.
Anyway, the next morning, the computer booted up and ran for twenty minutes, then shut off. After that, it would not boot at all.
I replaced the power supply, and then the computer started clicking off after about half a second second. If I unplug the secondary P4 power cable, the system will start up, fans spin, etc., but it never boots.
I posted this problem before and was told my cpu or motherboard or both must be fried, so I replaced both, one at a time, but the problem continues.
At this point I have tried unplugging every component in all possible configurations. Every time, it's always the P4 cable that causes the computer not to start.
I worry this means that either 1) gremlins inhabit my system, or 2) the problem all along was just the cable itself, which I could have fixed for under ten bucks. Can anyone confirm my new diagnosis, and if they can, can anyone else tell me where I can get a new cable? The new modular power supply I bought does not come with one.
