I had an internet connecion in the morning had nothing when I came home. I worked with the Comcast techs for some time. After running tests and resetting the modem they determined the signal was good and the modem was working properly. We then found that the IP address could be released but it would not renew. I was told that addresses starting with 169 could be troublesome. I'm not sure what they meant as this is the first time I've had any trouble since switching from a router to an ethernet cable.

I called tech support for my computer and they told me it was a common problem and they could fix it. For a fee of course. I spoke with another service and they told me they may be able to fix it. Someone else suggested it may be my OS or the modem. So... here I am.

Suggestions please?

Re: IP Address Can't Be Restored

Have you tried un-installing the network card drivers and then install them again? If not, try un-installing the network card drivers, reboot the computer, and then install the drivers once again.

Then see if you are able to get internet connection. If you are using an ethernet cable then try using a spare network cable.

Re: IP Address Can't Be Restored

I resolved the issue. I figured out how to un-install and re-install the NVIDIA Network card. I then went to Start> Run> config>in the DOS window I typed ipconfig/renew. This gave me a new IP address and solved the problem.

Thanks for the help!
